Norske Skog sells back part of its energy contract to Statkraft. Norske Skog has reached an agreement to sell back excess power in southern Norway to Statkraft. The sale encompasses an annual volume of 680 gigawatt hours and covers the period through the end of 2020.
UPM Sells its Packaging Paper Assets to the Swedish Billerud
UPM sells its packaging paper production to the Swedish packaging paper company Billerud. The transaction includes two packaging paper machines; one in Pietarsaari and one in Tervasaari, Finland. The enterprise value of the transaction is EUR 130 million. The transaction is subject to regulatory approval. The target is to close the transaction during the second quarter of 2012.
Södra reduced the price of its softwood pulp timber by SEK 25 per m3sub. This price reduction is also applicable to the pulp timber element of its storm range. The price of all hardwood pulp timber ranges will remain unchanged for the time being, however.
"This price reduction is a reaction to the prevailing demand, and there is plenty of raw material available at all Södra pulp mills," said Håkan Svensson, Director of Forestry at Södra.
Komatsu Forest Wins Major Contracts in South America
Forest machine manufacturer Komatsu Forest has signed a major deal with the new Brazilian pulp mill Eldorado Brasil in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul. In its entirety, the contract is worth about 1.4 billion Swedish kronor (US$ 200 million).

A Finnish forests executive has dismissed an environmental group’s report which listed Finland as having the world’s worst sustainable forestry management record.
Södra’s new Värö sawmill was inaugurated this week by Swedish Minister for Trade, Ewa Björling. A key part of the project is the location of the new sawmill adjacent to Södra’s Värö pulp mill.
Metsä-Botnia Participates in Plans to Construct a Biorefinery in Joutseno
Finland, Sep 6, 2011 - Metsä-Botnia, part of Metsäliitto Group, is participating in a feasibility study with energy companies Gasum and Helsingin Energia into constructing a biorefinery for biogas production in Joutseno, southeastern Finland. If realised, the biorefinery would produce biogas from renewable wood raw material for transmission to usage sites such as Helsinki Energy’s Vuosaari power plant via the Finnish natural gas network.
